TOSIN ASHAFA FACILITATES DONATION OF CLASSROOM FURNITURE TO IBEJU-LEKKI SCHOOL

Lagos, Nigeria - Entrepreneur and Investor, Basheer Tosin Ashafa, has successfully facilitated the donation of school furniture, consisting of 100 chairs and tables, to St. John’s R.C.M. School, Aiyeteju town, Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, Lagos State.

The donation was made by the Special Committee for the Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS) in Lagos State, after a series of intervention efforts and requests for support were made by Mr. Ashafa. Furthermore, it also complements Mr. Ashafa’s personal resources which were used to provide an extensive facelift in a three-year structured rehabilitation program. In August 2020, the new look of St. John’s R.C.M. School was commissioned, with members of the public in attendance.

In a statement by Mr. Ashafa, “We have seen that progress is an action word. An effective collaboration between the government and private organizations and individuals can only lead to progress. We are grateful to the Special Committee and its chairman, Mr. Hakeem Smith, for this support. I equally commend the Lagos State governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for keeping to his promise that the poor state of infrastructure in public schools, especially those in rural areas, will be addressed.”

The aim of the DSIL program is to train and equip young Lagos primary and secondary school students (ages 8 -16) with valuable digital skills. ScholarX will be facilitating the registration of students across all six education districts in the state, in addition to ensuring their engagement on the provided virtual learning platform.

In the DSIL program, students will learn digital skills from Scratch.mit.edu and Code.org that cuts across basic programming, introduction to creative programing, Arts, Storytelling, and Games. There will also be a final project to be worked on by the students where they will be required to develop an independent project by defining an idea to work on, and present the project and its development process.

According to Bola Lawal, Co-founder and CEO of ScholarX, “ScholarX is very excited to support this brilliant initiative by the Lagos state government as it aligns well with our goal of democratizing access to 21st century skills for students at all levels. Parents in Lagos state can register their children online at www.dsilagos.ng/district”.

Supplies and Renovations

When it comes down to it, really, this is a small gesture on our part to ensure that after being fed, these children have the right learning aids and educational materials. In the long term, we are hoping to overhaul the school's infrastructure and this means that partnerships with other agencies and individual donors are welcome. There is a lot we can do to help in rebuilding Nigeria’s education sector.
